Shamus McGillicuddy, EMAEMA Research Reveals that Big Data Analytics Transforms IT Planning, Monitoring, and Troubleshooting

by Shamus McGillicuddy, Senior Analyst, Network Management

Big data has enjoyed its share of hype in recent years. Proponents make some "big" claims about the technology's ability to find valuable and unexpected insights through the correlation of vast amounts of unstructured and structured data. Big data analytics can impact many aspects of an enterprise, from sales and marketing analysis to geographic optimization and asset allocation. But the backbone of almost any big data implementation is the IT organization. IT practitioners must understand how these data collection and analytics technologies affect their infrastructure, and they should also explore how big data can enhance their own technology planning and operations practices.

Open Cloud Management and Orchestration 2015: Adoption and Experiences

EMA Research ReportWhile both public and private workload deployments are expected to rise steadily, the fastest growing category is hybrid cloud, which is growing by more than 40% annually. Hybrid cloud presents unique challenges as it brings significantly higher degrees of complexity and operational risk to deployments than pure cloud does. While most who have deployed cloud environments feel they have been successful, those who feel the most successful with their cloud implementations show higher adoption rates of orchestration and automation technologies such as OpenStack.

Making the Right Application Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) Investment

The ADDM market is evolving rapidly, and in multiple directions at once. While this can be confusing, it is overall a good thing. Through this diversity, vendors delivering ADDM capabilities are, as an aggregate, seeking to be more responsive to a yet broader set of constituents, use cases, and roles than ever before. This includes requirements emerging from internal and external (public) cloud, the extended enterprise across ecosystems, agile application development, and a dramatic upswing in currency, ease of deployment and modularity.
