Shamus McGillicuddy, EMANew EMA Research Reveals the Impact of SDN on Network Management Tools and Practices

by Shamus McGillicuddy, Senior Analyst

Software-defined networking (SDN) and network virtualization are extremely disruptive technologies that enterprises and communications service providers will use to transform themselves over the next decade. SDN vendors have focused much of their attention on specifying architecture and designing solutions. Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) believes that too little attention has been paid to the management of these new networks.

EMA will soon publish research titled Managing Tomorrow's Networks: The Impacts of SDN and Network Virtualization on Network Management. The research is based on a survey of 226 early adopters of SDN and the related technologies, network virtualization and network functions virtualization, including 150 enterprise IT professionals and 76 service provider networking professionals.
