
Software Asset Management—Assessing the Market Landscape

Executive interest in Software Asset Management (SAM) is growing for good reason. The corporate benefit is significant in terms of control and cost savings when a solid SAM solution and a process for managing software assets are put in place: IT is in control, prepared and in a position to substantially cut costs; corporate executives are happy; IT gains credibility for managing its operation as a business.
There are two basic drivers that Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) hears over and over again when it comes to SAM. They are very much intertwined. The first is to reduce costs for software license and maintenance fees. Equally important is the ability to ensure preparedness for an audit with the goal of improved vendor relations and avoidance of costly fines. Both drivers tie directly to the company's bottom-line.
