End-to-End Application Management Research

For those of us in the enterprise management industry, it's easy to get caught up in the innovation
of the moment, especially when conversations about the newest hypervisor, Open Source management tool, or edge router garner a lot of attention. Technology is intriguing, and, for most of us, it's easy to miss the forest for the trees. Over the past year, we at EMA have begun to see a growing interest in a more holistic view of IT, as well as the need to manage business applications, not simply infrastructure. Our industry's raison d'être is to ensure the delivery of high quality applications that meet the needs of end users and business. The underlying technology is simply a way to fulfill that goal.

For that reason, EMA Vice President Dennis Drogseth, EMA Consulting Director of IT Services Chris Matney, and myself have spent a great deal of time over the past six months building out a cross-functional perspective on managing applications "end-to-end." This research details a multi-dimensional management model detailing the dimensions of visibility necessary to manage
today's complex, distributed, and often heterogeneous applications.
