The CMDB: Building Block or Distraction for SLM?
by Lisa Erickson-Harris,
Senior Analyst, EMA
Service management continues to take center stage for IT; however, the nature of the debate has changed. Instead of looking at the subject of service management as a whole, these days we’re talking about specific aspects of service management, including the IT Infrastructure Library’s (ITIL) Configuration Management Data Base (CMDB). The CMDB has taken much of the limelight in service management over the past 24 months. How much impact has the CMDB had on the area of service level management (SLM)? Positive? Negative? Or, are users seeing the CMDB as disjointed from SLM?
