Application Management in the Age of Cloud: Pushing the Boundaries of "End-to-End"

by Julie Craig, Research Director, Application Management

I am currently in the process of wrapping up my latest paper in the EMA "End-to-End Application Management" series. Titled "End-to-End Application Management in the Age of Cloud Computing," this new paper extends prior EMA research beyond on-premise, hosted applications to encompass the unique management challenges presented by moving applications to the Cloud. The paper is based on a survey conducted in May 2011 and includes a Cloud-focused update to the EMA End-to-End Application Management Semantic Model. I invite you to attend the complimentary Webinar on August 4, which will highlight the key results.

Cloud computing has had the biggest impact on applications of any technology since the Internet. This is the first research of its kind that examines the nature of this impact. It addresses the "new end-to-end," in which applications and transactions can (and already do) span Cloud and on-premise. EMA initiated research on end-to-end application management in 2008. We did so because, although everyone seemed to be using the "end-to-end" terminology as if it meant something, nobody seemed to know exactly what it meant.

EMA Radar for CMDB/CMS Use Cases: Innovation through Diversity

EMA RADARThis EMA Radar Report examines a new way of looking at value in Configuration Management Database and Configuration Management System (CMDB/CMS) technologies by focusing on these capabilities as enablers rather than as purely separate markets. The report also provides an in-depth look at 11 innovative vendor solutions. These vendors are:

  • FireScope
  • iET Solutions

EMA Radar for Hosted Message Security Services: Q2 2011

EMA RADARIn 2010, the EMA Security as a Service Research Report highlighted the growth of both managed and hosted security services. Within this broad spectrum, few domains have enjoyed the success of Hosted Message Security (HMS) services.

The Hosted Message Security Services Radar Report examines nine vendors of HMS services based on EMA criteria for functionality, deployment and administration, cost advantage, architecture and integration, and vendor strength. These vendors are:

  • AppRiver
  • Google (Postini)
