EMA Cross-Domain Value Offerings and What They Mean to You

While many in the industry like to assign discrete boundaries around discrete markets, the reality is that most of the real progress in management systems for enterprises and service providers comes from areas of intersection between traditional markets. I remember once having a thirty-minute discussion with a Wall Street investor who asked me if vendor X was in network management or application management. I explained that this vendor had a unique answer to monitoring and diagnosing application flows over wide area and even Internet connections and so was really a bit of both. At the end of the call, the investor asked the same question – still hoping that I could lead him to one bucket or the other. I heard later that he eventually saw the light in valuing the intersection versus the bucket.

Perhaps more than any other analyst firm, EMA has a balance of breadth to view granular requirements as they emerge within markets, but remains small and flexible enough to look at those "intersections" from a collaborative team perspective when appropriate. In honor of this collaboration, EMA is introducing the first three in a series of datasheets on "EMA Cross-Domain Value."
