EMA Vendor to Watch: Sysdig
Abstract: Sysdig offers an open source container visibility tool and a richer, commercial, cloud-based version, Sysdig Cloud, with full monitoring, alerting, and dashboards. Sysdig comes with built-in integrations to popular application, infrastructure, and container technologies. Sysdig Cloud, and the patent pending ContainerVision technolgoy, are bringing much needed visibility and management to the world of containers. The lighweight nature of Sysdig means no agents or other instrumentation weighing down containers. Sysdig achieves this container visibility with a kernel module--sysdig probe--that uses a name space to create a small window into each container. Sysdig can be extended with Lua scripts called chisels and views, and the growing collection of scripts covers a lot of troubleshooting, monitoring, and security cases. Sysdig is built to run in production, running as little code as possible in the kernel to minimize performance overhead. Sysdig is a light touch, full featured monitoring solution with alerts and historical replay that makes containers manageable. |
