DataCore Extends the Benefits of VVOLs Across All Storage
Abstract: In virtualized environments, vSphere virtual machines (VMs) interacting with external storage traditionally resulted in increased complexity and reduced flexibility with the provisioning process. The provisioning of storage process requires the vSphere and storage administrators to engage in a number of successive steps that correlate to their respective environments. VVols is a new construct for the storage of VMware virtual machines. VVOLs provides self-service of policy-based provisioning and management, increasing storage efficiency while reducing the administrative burden. Storage products must either be designed with support for VVOLs or have the capability added through new firmware. On August 15, 2016 DataCore, a leader in software-defined storage and hyper-converged virtual SAN solutions, announced the second generation of its universal vSphere Virtual Volume (VVOLs) software technology. This impact brief explores how DataCore's software expands the reach of VMware VVOLs to the entire storage infrastructure, including legacy equipment and solutions from multiple vendors |
